DIY Bath Salt

Winter is coming! (That sounds a little Game of Throneish but that is not what I am referring to!) If you love a great soak in a bathtub this time of year, here’s a very simple bath salt recipe you can add to your tub. Or make a bunch and give as a gift this holiday season to your family, friends, neighbors or co-workers. It truly makes a great little gift for every tub loving person to enjoy!

The project will require a few ingredients: Epson salt, baking soda, sea salt, a moisturizing oil like jojoba, coconut, or argan oil, an essential oil of your favorite scent like lavender, citrus, peppermint, etc., and some gel food grade coloring. You can find these ingredients at a local craft store, drug store or online. I find Amazon a great resource for specific items.

To start, combine the epsom salt, baking soda and sea salt in a bowl. The epsom salt helps relieve stress and inflammation. Baking soda helps detoxify and soften skin. Sea salt adds extra minerals that occur naturally in our bodies.

Then add some optional ingredients. I added moisturizing oil to add extra moisturizing for skin. Essential oil for scent. Lavender works for relaxation and best if using before bedtime. Citrus or peppermint help energize and reinvigorate your body. The food coloring is obviously for color. These ingredients are completely optional and your bath salt will be just as wonderful if you prefer a color free unscented soak.

Note: When using the gel food coloring, only add a drop and use a spoon to “mash” it into the bath salt. The coloring is thick so needs some help dispersing among the bath salt.

Once you have mixed these ingredients together really well, add to pint jars and attach cute wooden scoops or spoon if you wish. I found these little ones on Amazon. These make great little gifts for teachers, friends and family.

Recipe below makes 1 pint jar or 2 cups.
